Bob
Showers Kennel and Stable is about raising and training bird dogs and Tennessee
Walking Horses. Just as important, it is about the sport of upland bird hunting
and bird dog field trials. Bob has been hunting since coming of age, having been
brought up in a hunting family, and has 30 years of experience raising, training
and campaigning pointing dogs. The transition to working with horses just came
along naturally as he took up field trialing.
At home in southern Ontario, Bob keeps a small kennel for training customer's
dogs and raising Gordon Setters. It is his goal to raise, in small numbers, the
best hunting Gordons around and to advance the breed as a field trial
competitor. He is active in promoting field trials for all pointing breeds.
Alongside the kennel is his stable and indoor training arena where his wife,
‘Fred, works her magic starting young stock and getting them under saddle using
natural horsemanship methods. These horses are then taken out on the trails and
then put to work with Bob and the dogs.
In the winter months, Bob can be found in the southern United States, where he
has been going for the last 25 years to train dogs, hunt, field trial and put
miles and experience on good using Tennessee Walking Horses.
Training of horses and dogs is available year 'round. Space is limited so each
student gets the attention it needs.
